For those familiar with the music scene, the name Good Spells is no longer a foreign concept. This virtuosic British producer, songwriter, artist, and owner of his own Spells’ Lab has been standing atop the hierarchy when it comes to music anomalies. His sound defies convention, uniquely blending various genres. He is not one to be pigeonholed and likes exploring his creative options, coming up with a luxuriously eclectic brew that cuts across alternative genres, including dark pop, synth pop, and electronica, among many other unorthodox styles.
He returns with another hauntingly beautiful and moving body of work, “Time Again,” a thoughtful reflection on our limited time in this life. The opening lines, “What of this was the last time, you never know” encapsulate the mood of the entire track.
With this track, Good Spells is reminding the listener about the importance of appreciating the time we have in this life because life can be tragically unpredictable and unexpected things can happen at any moment…the difference between being alive and dead is just a split second, you know!
The beat here is compelling, especially as the song builds with the pulsing bass, swirling synths, reverb, and other quintessential electronic elements integrated to add depth to the arrangement.
In a departure from much of Spells’ work, the vocals here are livelier and more expressive, underscoring the weight of his words.
As expected from Spells, the execution and mix maintain the highest standards, resulting in a fully realized tune that is addicting.
Thanks to the deep lyrical content, the melodies have been constructed in a way that gives this jam its melancholic feel. The emotive voice also helps add to the sadness of the track.
The track has an official music video out on YouTube, which has over 10K views and is worth checking out.
A deeply meaningful song packaged nicely over a powerful production, “Time Again” is a must-have for anyone who appreciates the power of music to capture raw emotions!
