She also has a competence for balancing complexity with accessibility, using layered metaphors, sharp punchlines, and vivid imagery such that her every verse feels like a poem, dense with meaning yet easy to feel.
“Crossroads” is one of those jams that is effortlessly likeable. The very opening notes register in your mind like something you’ve listened to before but is still brand new to you. With the foundation sufficiently laid, Jourdan steps in like the boss, her flows and cadence just too good, flowing like water over this mellifluent foundation with such a conversational tone it feels like she is speaking right into you. Her delivery is warm yet sharp and easily morphs to reflect the mood of the song, feeling like an extension of the music itself, and that is what I love about this jam.
