From Adelaide, musician Lampy’s new single “Hanging Around” is a beautifully written piece that balances vulnerability with haunting metaphor.

Bringing you music from the edge of his grief and the depth of his soul, Lampy is not just a singer-songwriter — he’s a survivor, a storyteller, and a witness to pain. Hailing from Adelaide, South Australia, Lampy crafts deeply personal music forged from the rawness of loss, the weight of mental health struggles, and the search for meaning in a world that doesn’t always offer answers. He doesn’t write songs to impress but rather to connect. With nothing left to prove and everything to feel, this is an artist turning his experiences into acoustic-laced truths that resonate with anyone who’s ever felt the heavy silence of grief or the internal war of anxiety and despair.

For anyone out there who appreciates an artist who doesn’t shy away from the dark but rather meets it head-on, using each lyric as torchlight for those walking similar paths, Lampy has to be your plug.

At face value, Lampy’s newest demo song, “Hanging Around” seems to be directed towards someone who has lingered too long emotionally or spiritually, perhaps as a spirit, a memory, or even grief. It was inspired by the death of his mom, but he is intentionally metaphorical, making the song less about her and more about grief or unresolved attachment.

Maybe it’s the persistent emotional presence she left behind —like her passing created a kind of emotional specter that clings to him.

Guitar-laden, “Hanging Around” certainly captures Lampy’s wrestle with the internal aftermath: the confusion, the longing, the burden of carrying someone’s emotional imprint, and the inability to truly let go.

It is guitar-peppered but still lacks that emotional depth, allure, and crispness in the production, which is understandable seeing that this is a demo. I feel that this kind of jam will benefit from more additional instrumental layers, such as the violin, which will accentuate that emotional weight. I also feel that the vocals need to be refined a bit to truly bring out these powerful emotions of the duality of grief, conflicted longing, mental fatigue, and cognitive dissonance.

As far as the production is concerned, the song needs a fine touch to truly bring out the desired impact such a track is capable of achieving.

For me, what this jam needs is that poignant, atmospheric and cinematic touch to truly exude its multifaceted emotional angle.

Other than that, I feel that “Hanging Around” has got the potential to not only stir emotions but also take Lampy to the next available musical level.

Have your say below.
