Chicago-based hip-hop and rap artist Mista Sanchez pours his heart out in “The Heart of My Momma,” a heartfelt tribute to his murdered brother.

From the hotbed of talent and cultural excellence emerges Mista Sanchez, a Chicago-born and bred artist projecting the richness, greatness, and aura of this musical hotspot. Following in the footsteps of homegrown heroes such as Kanye, Common, King Von, Polo G, and Chance the Rapper, Sanchez exudes a refined musical touch that has earned him reverence from his peers and heavyweights alike. He does not shy away from confronting real emotions and tackling heavy topics that might be too much for others. This has established him as a reputable emcee to watch out for.

They say that the passage of time will heal all wounds. But the greater the loss, the deeper the cut, and the more difficult the process of becoming whole again. Picture this: Mista Sanchez is just going about his business when he receives a call, which soon turns out to be a dreaded one: his blood brother has been shot dead.

The worst turns out to be true as he pulls up to the helplessly cold body of his brother lying dead on the floor, shot in the back of his head.

“The Heart of My Momma” sees Sanchez bleed his heart out on the mic. You can feel the raw emotions of hurt, anger, and disbelief in his voice. He struggles to live with this reality and wishes for time to go back so he can change this exact moment.

From the moment he received the call to the burial and being there for his mom, who is beyond crushed and adding to his own inconsolable grief, you can’t help but feel the pain and sadness with him.

The catchy hook encapsulates the emotional weight of missing his brother every day, knowing that he will not be seeing him anytime soon. It is heavy, memorable, and relatable, especially to anyone who has lost someone so close that they still don’t know how to live without them.

“The Heart of My Momma” is much more than a mellow and captivating old-school-inspired beat; it is a heartfelt tribute to a loved one, delivered straight from an ailing heart.

Let this song speak to your own feelings of loss and console you in the best possible way. To all those who have lost beloved family members or close friends, we can take heart in the thought that they are up there watching over us.
