Fast-rising R&B star Leavell’s “My Heart” is a tender and timeless R&B jam that deserves critical acclaim

Leavell’s music feels like it’s been lived in. His songs carry the weight of his personal journey, touching on pain, perseverance, and joy. He draws from a deep well of musical experience, from the harmonies he grew up with in church to the grooves he found in clubs. This background allows him to blend heartfelt stories with versatile melodies, creating music that connects with listeners on a human level.

His new track, “My Heart,” is a perfect example of his craft. At three and a half minutes, the R&B jam has a timeless, soulful quality that also feels perfectly contemporary. It’s already finding an audience, with over 3,000 Spotify streams and climbing. The song seems to hit a sweet spot, appealing to longtime R&B fans and new listeners.

“My Heart” opens with warm, mellow guitar melodies that gently pull you in. Over this foundation, Leavell’s velvety vocals glide with an easy confidence. The resulting sound is both addictive and tender, an intimate listening experience.

Speaking on the inspiration for the song, Leavell shared the emotional cycle behind it:

“When it comes to love, I do it wholeheartedly. I’ve never met anyone who gave the effort I have. The emojis ❤️💘💔❤️🩹 summed it up perfectly—you give your all, fall in love, hope they feel the same. When your heart breaks, you have to heal and fix it yourself. Sadly, it’s the cycle of being single.”

This is why “My Heart” works so well; it’s a song about love and heartbreak that feels completely genuine. Its lush production is wrapped around a core of real vulnerability and resilience. That sincerity is a hallmark of Leavell’s work. You can hear it in the tenderness of “My Heart,” the emotional pulse of his song “My Heart,” or the global flair he’s aiming for with his upcoming tune “Oh What A Nite.” He isn’t afraid to channel his life, from personal tragedy to the hopes of fatherhood, into his sound. Each release is a true reflection of who he is as an artist and a man.

“My Heart” is available now on all streaming platforms.
