30 Songs About Insecurity (Listen To These If Insecure)

We’ve all had moments where we didn’t feel like ourselves; our confidence was drained, our inner beauty was buried, and we felt undeserving, worthless, and full of insecurities. There have been moments we have been cynical and skeptical about everything and everyone and sometimes blamed ourselves for other people’s flaws.

If so, then we are right on the same track and if you wanted some songs to resonate with those feelings of insecurities you might have been or are still battling with, then I might just be the only person that got your back.

Here are a few songs about insecurity that I put together and I hope you enjoy them as much as I did. At the end of the day, we most certainly always express insecurities about something and that is totally normal and a human trait.

Best Songs about Insecurity

Lorde – Liability

Stranger things happen to good people and maybe we are a little too harsh on ourselves, thinking that we don’t deserve that which we are getting, dimming our lights a little too much, and allowing others’ light to shine and cast a huge shadow over us.

But no, you are not a liability; you deserve the replication of every true affection and energy you give out. This is two-way traffic and you have to give way or risk causing an accident!

Sauti Sol – Insecure

One of Africa’s award-winning bands hailing from Kenya delivers a masterpiece about all manners of insecurities.

“She’s so insecure, she don’t make love with the lights on, so insecure, she don’t wanna talk about it no. And I’m so insecure one day she’ll leave me and she’ll find another guy who makes her happier than I”.

Well! There you have it, if you have all these manners of insecurities about your body, love life, and such, then this is the track to sing along to.

SZA – Drew Barrymore

Well, there is no debating that when SZA gets on those vocals, she ignites an eternal spark and you’d be forgiven for mistaking her to be impregnable to such insecurities, and in this track, she questions her worth to her lover and whether she is enough for him.

“Am I… Warm enough for ya outside baby, yeah. Tell me that it’s warm enough here for ya”.

As you down that obscenely large amount of bourbon, you can’t help but wonder if you are enough for the people you love and care about.

Alessia Cara – Scars To Your Beautiful

This was the perfect song from her debut album “know-it-all” to all those who want to fit in and feel they don’t have what it takes sing-along “She just wants to be beautiful, she goes unnoticed, she knows no limits, she craves attention, she praises an image she prays to be sculpted by the sculptor…” I have good news for you “You don’t have to change a thing, the world could change its heart…”

Beyonce – Hold Up

From her “LEMONADE” visual album, Beyonce details in a poetic fashion right from the beginning wondering what she did wrong, was it her fault that her partner cheated on him?

There’s more to the realization of her self-worth than anything (including the insecurities) but still, she can’t help but question herself because she was there, she did everything but still, he cheated.

So “what’s worst, lookin’ jealous or crazy?”

Gnash ft. Olivia O’ Brien – I Hate U, I Love U

Do you hate and love someone and hate the fact that you love them?  Such a conundrum right!

This is the pain we suffer for harboring a deprived heart that just doesn’t know when to give up. The result is that you end up smitten and completely bewitched that you lose sight of everything that you used to know and stand for. (I’m sorry if this made you sad! Not my intention whatsoever)

City – Locked Away ft. Adam Levine

This track epitomizes all mothers of all insecurities by questioning the loyalty of a loved one in the face of ignominy or destitution and/or misfortune.

“If I got locked away and we lost it all today tell me honestly, would you still love me the same? If I showed you my flaws if I couldn’t be strong, tell me honestly, would you still love me the same!”

Echosmith – Cool Kids

They say you have to fake it till you make it – so you’re just there caught up under the pressure, trying to fit in, pretending to be someone you’re not, trying so hard to impress, and falling into depression when your lifestyle adjustments aren’t so successful and not a single soul is paying attention!

Clear your voice and 1, 2 go “I wish that I could be like the cool kids cuz all the cool kids, they seem to fit in. I wish that I could be like the cool kids, like the cool kids”

Pink – Don’t Let Me Get Me

The amount of meaning in this song is criminally underrated. I think most high school students, and a good majority of adults can identify with the lyrics.

Are you fighting some demons against yourself, looking in the mirror, and seeing somebody else?  And it’s so bad you can’t take the person staring back at you? Don’t you worry child, Pink got you on this one!

Meghan Trainor – Nice to Meet Ya ft. Nicki Minaj

When you choose to walk and I mean really walk the relationship journey, then everything is laid down for you and major sacrifices are made. And what a better way for artists who have gone through those emotions or just merely acting on creative references to express themselves musically and in lyrical fashions to do exactly that.

Below are some of the tracks painted with themes about insecurities in relationships or at least the hurt that comes with these insecurities. Relish!

Sam Smith – I’m Not The Only One

When it comes to love ballads no one does it quite like Sam Smith and the way he puts a ring on them love songs like some god of love is something that needs to be investigated for excessive exquisiteness.

This track overflows with damning proof of insecurities that downright will lead to a break up for it cannot survive this one!

“You say I’m crazy cos you don’t think I know what you’ve done. But when you call me baby, I know I’m not the only one…”

Adele – Water Under The Bridge

Adele is one of the world’s best-selling music artists, boasting over 120 million record sales and you can always find all sorts of emotions in her music.

In “Water Under The Bridge” she confronts her vulnerabilities head-on, questioning the intentions of a lover who is cowering behind some half-baked feelings and does not want to come free at the expense of the other person’s feelings.

“If you’re gonna let me down, let me down gently. Don’t pretend that you don’t want me. Our love ain’t water under the bridge…”

Dax – My Heart Hurts

Here insecurities have grown and graduated to hurt and there is no turning back. The insecurities are brought to life with the spying and snooping around and when you feel it in your gut then you have to let your intuition guide you.

Dax sings, “… but I noticed something was wrong, can’t even look me in the eyes. Got a tracker on your phone I know that you’ve been telling lies, got the passwords to your sh*t I see you texting other guys…”

Khalid & Normani – Love Lies

You need that confirmation Asap for your insecurities can’t allow you to feel the genuineness of the love your other half is offering. You still insist on them to prove to you regularly, “Don’t be afraid to tell me if you ain’t with it…” to make it feel right just ‘tell them where your love lies’.

Kygo, Selena Gomez – It Ain’t Me

Hurtful relationship on the verge of breaking down boiling down to insecurities brought by bad choices including excessive drinking and partying, Kygo and Selena take a nostalgic look at a relationship that could not be revived.

“Who’s gonna walk you through the dark side of the morning? Who’s gonna rock you when the sun won’t let you sleep….it ain’t me…”

Halsey – Bad At Love

Halsey reveals her vulnerabilities and insecurities after trying out several different relationships which were not very successful.

“Got a boy back home in Michigan and it tastes like Jack when I’m kissing him. So I told him that I never really liked his friends. Now he’s gone and he’s calling me a b*tch again…”

She admits she’s bad at love but you really can’t blame her for trying, can you?

Demi Lovato – Tell Me You Love Me

Flourishes like on some open Mic exposing her vulnerable feelings and talking about the need for a relationship in her life. And on days like this, she needs some confirmation that she is loved “Oh, tell me you love me (ooh)
I need someone
On days like this, I do
On days like this
Oh, tell me you love me”

Nick Jonas – Jealous

Well, this one battles insecurities that come from jealousy. The way you can’t stand the way someone is looking at your special person in that type of way that you feel like you might want to punch them through the face. Instead of punching them in the nose, let Nick let out those emotions for you!

Shawn Mendes – Treat You Better

With the promise of a better and more loving relationship, someone is trying to snatch someone from their grasp. So, unless you are Shawn Mendes, don’t offer to take someone unless you can treat them better than their current boyfriend!

Jazmine Sullivan X Bryson Tiller – Insecure

Sang from a male’s perspective who is insecure about their woman making the woman feel overwhelmingly suffocated in the relationship because of her lover’s insecurities. The man thinks that her partner is cheating while she’s out there just having honest fun with her friends.

Beyonce – Love Drought

Why are you afraid of love, you think it’s not possible for someone like you, but you’re the love of my life”

Love Drought is one of the best tracks from her “LEMONADE” album holding no emotions prisoner and will stand to resonate staggeringly with those battling heartbroken emotions. “Ten times out of nine, I know you’re lying But nine times outta ten, I know you’re trying So I’m trying to be fair…”

Russ – Serious

Man’s out here feeling that her girlfriend isn’t taking him as seriously as he would like her to. He is going out of his way to prove to her that he is the one for her but for some reasons unbeknownst to him, he feels like she is skeptical and cynical about the whole thing.

Joyner Lucas ft. Ashanti – Fall Slowly

His love is real and his insecurities so deep that he wouldn’t even harbor any thoughts of their loved ones with anybody else other than them. “If I weren’t with you I can’t picture me with someone else…”

Quench your thirst with these ones and add them to your favorites to vibe from time to time when you feel like your relationship is taking a nosedive to remind you that you are not alone in this one. Not unless you are!

Melancholic (sad) songs

These are generally sad songs that touch the heart to its core and you might be forgiven for shedding a tear or two as they hit the sensitive senses within you like they were meant to!

NF – Let You Down

Nobody is perfect and sometimes along the way we let people down and even ourselves. What we can only do is not give up but continue loving and being kind to ourselves and those around us.

“All these voices in my head get loud
I wish that I could shut them out
I’m sorry that I let you down
Let you down”

Juice WRLD – Lucid Dreams

Jared Anthony Higgins alias Juice Wrld was all genuine and put his heart into this one. An openly vulnerable melancholic track born from the emo rap scene inspired by his influential album “Goodbye & Good Riddance”-  a melodic rap song featuring emotionally vulnerable lyrics imbued with teenage angst.

Juice Wrld’s melodic vocal style veers on melancholic and he feels that he may never love again.

As a tribute to him allows me to add a few lines to honor the music that he left us with. He felt music sometimes has to be a bit sad to reflect his belief that the world is not really a light or a happy place. He had made it his mission to talk about things others are thinking but are afraid to speak about, such as being vulnerable and hurt, offering lyrics that touch on heartbreak and fragmented feelings (A groundbreaking musical approach providing a sense of familiarity that heartbroken adolescents of the current generation can gravitate toward)

He only wrote from personal experience and found strength in his pain and vulnerability, his lyrical content centering on heartache and bitterness. His songs would be impassioned blood-lettings full of frankness and vulnerability that listeners battling similar emotional turmoil might be able to find comfort in.

Higgins died as a result of toxic levels of oxycodone and codeine present in his system and for the fans of Juice’s unapologetically emotive sound – heartbroken anthems that trembled with trauma and reached millions – it will hurt to never know the heights he might have scaled.

13 Proven Reasons Why Is Music Important

Brad Paisley ft. Alison Krauss – Whiskey Lullaby

The pain of a soldier who comes back having survived war only to find his mistress fornicating on their matrimonial bed, the pain, the mystery, the sadness, and above all the betrayal is too much to bear and no amount of whiskey is enough to heal him and make him forget.

Eventually, the emotional turmoil is too much for him to bear and it drives him to his grave with a bullet through his brains. The self-blame on the cheating partner is too much to bear and she goes down the same route as her ex-lover and now both are buried next to each other beneath the willow

“While the angels sang a whiskey lullaby

La, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la
La, la, la, la, la, la, la”

XXXTENTACION – Jocelyn Flores

This sad and emotional tune pays tribute to her best friend and model Jocelyn Flores who committed su*cide in 2017.

The rapper takes us through his own emotions following the death of his close friend and how her death made him suicidal. This versatile prodigy who was a leading figure in the emo-rap and Soundcloud rap genres which garnered mainstream attention during the mid-late 2010s was murdered at the age of 20 when he was fatally shot near a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida.

His music lives on!

Wiz Khalifa – See You Again ft. Charlie Puth

This chart-topping song is a memorial to actor Paul Walker, who was killed in a vehicle accident while filming Fast and Furious 7.

And to all the enthusiasts of the Fast and Furious franchise, it’s a great song to cry to with its emotionally powerful message complemented by Charlie Puth’s equally emotionally drawing and charged vocals and Wiz Khalifa’s family relationship-focused raps to epitomize friendship and closeness.

“How can we not talk about family when family’s all that we got?”

Justin Bieber – Lonely

Showcasing the power of vulnerability and singing through the sad reality that was his true story of paying the price for “money and fame at an early age”.

Featuring Benny Blanco, Bieber delivers a damning revelation of his lonely early life as a celebrity and how those staring from outside were quick to judge and condemn him.

“What if you had it all
But nobody to call?
Maybe then you’d know me
‘Cause I’ve had everything
But no one’s listening
And that’s just lonely”

Billie Eilish, Khalid – Lovely

Let not the title deceive you for it is born of sarcasm for these two great artists are trying to make the best out of a depressing situation. Billie Eilish is dealing with the repercussions of her heartbreak, and her ex does not appear to have faded from her memory.

Both musicians are struggling to overcome the misery and depression that is drowning them in the lyrics of “Lovely.” They cynically state throughout the song that they had become accustomed to being depressed.

According to Billie Eilish and I quote, “We called it lovely because the song was sort of really freaking depressing. So then it’s like oh, how lovely. Just taking everything horrible like you know what this is great! I’m so happy being miserable”

The Weeknd – Dark Times

From his album “The Beauty & the Madness”, the are some dark truths in this one as The Weeknd tells the fast paced lifestyle of a star, partying on drugs, drinking, and fighting and he doesn’t feel like he should bring anyone else into his destructive life.

“Waking up, half past five
Blood on pillow and one bruised eye
Drunk too much, you know what I’m like
But you should’ve seen the other guy”

You will also get a lot of sad themes from the following tracks

John Cash – Hurt

P!nk – Nobody Knows

Nickelback – Lullaby

Imagine Dragons – Believer

I hope that from this day, your sad hour’s playlist will be decorated with a majority if not all of these tracks, and that way, I’d really be blessed immeasurably for my generous contribution towards the enhancement of your listening experience (I know you agree!)

What emotion is Insecurity?

Insecurity or rather emotional insecurity is that general feeling that we sometimes get accustomed to where we can’t help but feel a pang of uneasiness or nervousness which may be a result of our own inferior view of ourselves triggered by a perception of vulnerability or a sense of instability which more often than not threaten our self-image and bruise our ego.

How can we release insecurity?

Insecurities, when left unchecked, can be detrimental to a person’s life but you need not worry for nothing is permanent and taking one day at a time, you will eventually get there and feel more confident and happy about all the aspects of your life. Here are a few tips to guide you along the way and help you liberate yourself from those haunting insecurities.

1. Spend time with the right people

You’d be surprised at the number of people who find you genuinely fascinating and splendidly beautiful. You should spend time with people who love you to the moon and back, those who bring out the best in you, and those who make you feel valued and right at home

2. Be You!

There is no better version of you than you and you so happen to be the most unique being in the whole of the universe. Does that not count for anything? If it does, you might as well embrace the uniqueness within you and as you take this journey towards the fullest experience of your highest greatness, step by step, magic, and beauty as obvious as you now witness here will infuse your days and only accelerate over the years. Of this, you can be sure. Always remember that comparison is the thief of joy!

3. Focus on Baby steps and be consistent

Run an immensely specific daily map about who you are and why you are special and do that constantly to experience amazing days like a food recipe, follow the steps you will have outlined to help you appreciate yourself better and you’ll get the results. And amazing days will create an upward spiral into amazing weeks and amazing weeks into amazing months and the end result is an amazing lifetime. Can you believe this!

4. Embrace Positivity

You don’t want to carry most of your days feeling hateful, if anything such vile emotions only fuel your insecurities.

Live a life shadowed with a lot less sadness, rudeness, and hate. And so much more creativity, beauty, peacefulness, and love!

5. Live for the moment

A lot of us complicate life and since we are just mere creatures who make up just a significant portion of the earth’s possessions, we ought to take it all in, breathe and simply make the most of what the universe has to offer.

Just shut our ears and eyes to the destructions happening around us and adore the things that make us happy. Life’s finest treasures live in their simplest moments.

In those daily occurrences that most of us take for granted. Until we lose them. So release those limiting beliefs that might have been forged from your tumultuous childhood and let go of the toxic emotions that have grown out of your past traumas.

6. Be resilient

Sometimes the insecurities may be too heavy to handle and may weigh you down. It does not mean that you are weak and remain undefeated no, it just means like many of us you’re sailing through a storm and it’ll soon be over and you’ll come out of the other side alive.

On the other side of every tragedy lives a triumph. And beyond adversity exists a bridge to endearing victory. You just have to be resilient.

7. Seek Therapy

If there is anything that has been proved to work wonders, it is the power of communicating. So it’d be wise when you feel overwhelmed by the insecurities you talk to someone about them preferably a professional who is conversant with such matters and you’ll soon be walking into the world every day thinking, feeling, and producing at levels that make you unconquerable. You owe this gift to yourself!

8. Read More

There is so much information stored in books and as we are well aware, knowledge is power.

Education truly is an inoculation against interruption and elite producers are lifetime learners. To overcome the sickening insecurities, maybe you need some powerful and potent read that will elevate your acumen, develop your wisdom and stir a flaming fire that touches your grandeur. You’ll become a heavy thinker and an outright victor!

You have to recognize that the only devils in the universe are those operating in our own hearts. That is where the war should be fought. Your prosperity always follows your courage and your influence in the world echoes the splendor, nobility, vigor, and brilliance you’ve accessed in yourself. External always expresses interior, without always reflecting within.

Once again, thank you for taking your time to read through this weighty post and I hope the insights I’ve laid down will be of so much help to all the readers out there (You included!).
