I have to admit that I did not expect a holiday EP to pull me into my own head the way A Journey Digital Christmas, Vol. 1 did. Most seasonal music tries to convince us that life transforms into a perfect snow globe the moment December arrives. Terrell Journey avoids that entirely. He presents a version of December that actually exists. It is messy, expensive, lonely in some corners, and warm in others. Because of that honesty, this project goes beyond sounding good; it feels disturbingly familiar.

The first time I played “Christmas Too Fast,” I had to pause the track and wonder how he knew exactly what I was thinking. The lyric “Christmas came too fast this year, where did the time go?” hit much harder than I anticipated. It captures exactly how the season feels. One minute you are in July, and the next you are staring at overdue bills while trying to manufacture holiday spirit you do not possess.

The part that truly landed for me was when he sings, “Disconnect notice from life, I keep trying to do what’s right but these bills keep coming.”

That line comes without glitter or pretense. It is the sort of honesty you usually only admit to yourself in the dark while scrolling through messages and pretending everything is fine. Hearing this song felt like listening to someone else voice the anxieties I usually keep swallowed down.

Terrell flips the tone completely with “Christmas Pyjamas.” This track feels like walking into a heated room after standing out in the cold. It is simple, romantic, and surprisingly sweet. The song acts as a brief break from reality. The repetition of “I want to see you in your Christmas pyjamas” sounds like it should not work, yet it somehow becomes the heartbeat of the track. It is playful and slightly flirty. It sounds like the type of conversation you have with someone you genuinely want around.

When he asks, “Won’t you come over and put your Christmas PJ on?” it paints a specific scene. You can practically see the dim lights and the quiet living room lit by the soft glow of a TV playing a movie no one is watching. It reminded me of those rare nights where everything slows down and you actually feel content, even if it is temporary.

Then comes “Sleep Through Christmas,” which is easily the most emotional moment on the project. This one feels like a text message you draft but never actually send. Terrell sings, “I know that we said we were through and that I shouldn’t contact you but there’s a reason, it’s the season to be jolly.” That line tells you everything you need to know. The break-up is real, the distance is felt, and the season makes it sting twice as much.

Nothing cuts deeper than the refrain:

“And I will probably sleep through Christmas… if you are not here with me.”

That sentiment sits heavy. It resonates especially well if you have ever had a December where someone important was missing. This track avoids exaggerating heartbreak; instead, it lets the pain sit quietly in the center of the song. The simplicity makes it even stronger.

What ties the whole EP together is how Terrell balances hope, stress, romance, and heartbreak in a way that feels authentic. Each track catches a different angle of life in December. By the time the EP ends, you feel like you have lived through a small story that you recognize more than you expected.
