Salt Lake City’s J.T. Hiskey and Wifisfuneral team up to explore ambition and grounded self belief on the new track Purpose

J.T. Hiskey has been carving his own lane for a while. The Salt Lake City native, who had a memorable Tonight Show moment in 2018, is now 28 and building momentum through 2025. After touring with Mike Sherm, D Savage, and Chris Travis, he’s built a sound that mixes optimism, grind, and good vibes. His latest track, “Purpose,” featuring Wifisfuneral and produced by Gregory Goose, captures that energy perfectly.

The collaboration’s origin is straightforward. Hiskey met Wifisfuneral opening for D Savage earlier this year, and they clicked. You can hear that chemistry on the song, a blend of Hiskey’s playful self-assurance and Wifisfuneral’s laid-back, introspective style. Gregory Goose’s production provides wavy synths and a spacey, late-night drive vibe suited for headphones or highway lights.

“Purpose” is a mood piece about ambition, self-belief, and staying grounded. Hiskey opens with bars that feel like they’re floating: “I’m way too high like I can’t stand / Girls on my hoes I’m all in, y’all with a friend…” It’s a hazy, confident, and self-aware flex that doesn’t scream, it just glows. He then flips the perspective, asking the song’s central question: “What’s your purpose?” It’s a line that feels both rhetorical and real, landing differently depending on your own hustle.

Wifisfuneral brings his trademark introspection, delivering a verse that is cool, precise, and quietly emotional. His flow complements Hiskey’s energy but adds more grit. They make an interesting duo. Hiskey’s bright, free-spirited verses float above Wifisfuneral’s sharper edges. This contrast feels refreshing in a scene that often favors mood over meaning.

The hook is simple: “That’s my purpose, ayy / What’s your purpose, ayy?” It’s the kind of chant that sticks in your head. The repetition builds confidence without arrogance. Hiskey isn’t preaching; he’s vibing. It’s the sound of someone who knows winning is about consistency, community, and keeping things “rad always,” as he likes to say.

Hiskey’s authenticity extends beyond the music. He recently mentioned writing new songs from his truck in the mountains, finding inspiration in stillness and scenery. That down-to-earth creative energy seeps into “Purpose,” giving the track both atmosphere and soul.

The song seems less focused on reinventing hip-hop and more on exploring how personal the genre can feel. “Purpose” is for anyone chasing something, be it a dream, a goal, or just a good day. It’s a track for the grinders, the dreamers, and anyone still figuring things out but refusing to quit.

Stream “Purpose” now on all platforms. Turn it up, and maybe ask yourself the same question J.T. and Wifisfuneral are posing: what’s your purpose?
