Just recently, I came to the realization that my profound love for the great musicians of the golden age started with the Beatles. Because why else does she seem to know almost every single composition they have ever written? Far from that, when I stumbled upon the singer Cle Char Harris’s own cover of the band’s “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” I was eager to experience what another version, more so from a female artist, would sound like. I am happy to report that I was emotionally gratified with the experience!
Covering such epic songs like these isn’t always child’s play because you may end up totally achieving the opposite of what you desired, but this is far from Cle Char Harris’s case; she nails this performance like a queen…every bit of it!
I really appreciate that she did not feel the need to necessarily copy every element of the track because what would’ve been the point anyway? Harris carves her own niche throughout the performance, but in a way that respectfully honors the original composition.
I love the electric guitar elements…really give the tune that rock feel, and then her voice is so bold, vibrant, and expansive as she delivers a performance that is poised and confident.
The instrumentation in this performance has also been given that cinematic feel, and Harris proves to be quite theatrical to drive the point home.
Listening to her repeat those deep and thoughtful lines, “I’m sitting here, doing nothing but ageing”…I mean, what a line! What a deep thought! What an emotional rollercoaster ride this song takes its listeners on!
The electric guitar hits differently and gives more natural emotions to the track and the arrangement…wow, it’s just beautiful and warms your heart.
This delightfully charming and emotional performance makes a grown man weep; Cle Char Harris invokes the emotions that match the song perfectly. Kudos to her for giving us such a treat in her original way!
