If anyone were to ask me the kind of artist PIVE is, I’d gladly tell them that he is a sum-total of mainstream-ready lyricist, deft wordsmith, versatile rapper, and dynamic performer who thrives on always being a step ahead of the game and not limiting himself to a certain style or cadence, making him one of the few artists to whom you always look forward to listening, especially when they release new material. His ‘I Will Forever Be’ series album, which made an undeniable impact and unleashed a new level of intensity within him, each collection showcasing a better side to PIVE’s artistry as he came back harder with bangers oozing irresistible cadence, charisma, raw talent, and widespread acclaim, showcased a complete artist ready to take over the world of hip-hop and its disciplines.
Listening to his latest release dubbed “Real Ones 2,” my appreciation for his craft has reached new heights. It is simply incredible how he’s just able to sound so lyrical, purposeful, commanding, composed, and thrilling all at the same time.
The production here is high-end—atypical with a very warm and inviting tone from the opening seconds as the guitar melodies and subtle fiddle flourishes and keys provide such a euphonious foundation, right before the deep beats make an entrance, providing a steady backdrop for PIVE’s unmistakably strong voice with a magnetic presence as he slinks his way with an audaciously determined authority.
What I appreciate about this track’s production is how dynamic and innovative it feels. There are moments, especially with those drum rolls reminiscent of marching bands and just the way the tempo is upped with that infectious hook that mirrors something pop-esque. The subtle fiddle tones in between inject the song with an orchestral feel, albeit very minimally but just enough to do the trick!
“Real Ones 2” sees PIVE bare his soul, taking a listener to 22nd St. block in the upper left USA, where he grew up with friends and family, reminiscing about those shared friendships and moments while also talking about life’s journey about growing up, leaving the block, marrying and having kids, hustling, amplified with an inspiring message for all his real ones to keep their heads up, keep soaring high, and always remember that he’s got them in his heart.
The striking music video, set in an intimate setting, showcases a powerful minimalist approach, was shot in PIVE’s hood, where he grew up, becoming much more than a visually appealing music video but an extension of the music itself and the message behind it.
