Sabas Whittaker is a multi-talented musician and composer, poet, author, humanitarian activist, visual artist, and painter. Seeking to inspire the world through his numerous talents, Whittaker borrows a heavy leaf from his mentor and greatest influencer Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. whose legacy of freedom, equality, justice, and love lives through him and he in turn wishes to spread such awareness and message of kindness, humanity, love, and peace and echo the legacy of his mentor through his works – regardless of the capacity. This was one of the influential factors that made the album “The Songbook of life” happen. This 10-track was inspired by Martin Luther King Jr. and takes a listener through the journey of life – first paying tribute to the iconic figure and king who gave his all in the quest for social justice, freedom, and equality of all human races!
“My Role Model” is the first track off of this album and it is a befitting tribute song to such a prominent world figure, who not only shaped the politics of the US but of the whole world as well. The cinematic percussion at the beginning with those inviting drum boards followed by the purposefully placed voice of Luther king demands the attention of a listener to which a listener obligingly relinquishes. The guitar tones are expertly piloted and smoothly yet intensively land on the foundation of the track as the band utilizes everything within reach to design a gossamer fabric of sound that has that country and jazzy feel. The vocals do not come near to anything that can be considered a disappointment!
“God’s Love Nature’s Love Haiti” is a joyous feel-good type of track that dazzles and enjoys the backing of the sparkling organic instruments that trickle down in danceable flair like some water off of a waterfall – forming a never-ending, exquisite sound to behold kind of groove!
“Don’t Look Down On Your Brother” examines the state of ignominy and destitution and carries a deep message of trying to see others as human beings before anything else. The electric guitars take hold of the melody right from the start and play hide and seek with the punchy and dutiful drums to unmask the message behind the lyrics.
“EL Emigrante” is a Spanish track that tells the true story of an immigrant – living behind of everything and everyone you’d grown with and going into unfamiliar territories with just the hope of a better life. And as if to give hope of a better future, the melody on display is studded with danceable quality and lively beats to design a vibrant groove.
“Rainfall Summer Rain” is a reggae-infused euphonious track that exquisitely sprints from the ground up with the guitars, the drums, the bass rhythms, and other reggae quintessential percussive elements being brought to order with some distinguishably complete vocal performances from the band involved. Listening to this track while overlooking beautiful beach scenery, somewhere in the Caribbean would really slap!
“My Beautiful Caribbean Queen” was inspired by Whittaker’s wife, Damaris, and her indescribable beauty, wealthy heart, tremendous courage, love, support, decency, and integrity – a larger extension to all the women in the world – this song is dedicated to you all and an appreciation to your existence and role. This is a dance track featuring romanticized lyrics delivered with sensual and smooth vocals keeping pace with the song’s upbeat tempo.
“Isabela” is an emotional laid-back and tear-jerking soul track that offers insight into the heartbreak of a miscarriage while giving a touching picture of the power and sweet innocence of a little girl and loving neighbors. The delicate vocal performances take listeners through all the entailing emotions – one emotion at a time and gently to a climaxing point.
