The Seattle-born rapper, singer, and comedian has drawn controversy for his style of satirical rap. Many are those who have embraced his style and find it amusing, entertaining, and, to an extent, meaningful. And seeing that critical satire isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, we might excuse them, but for those of us who appreciate it as a tool to address stinging issues, especially in the context of contemporary politics and other topical issues, then you are welcome because here is where you belong with The MC Type as your lyrical captain.
His style is drenched in versatility, and he has demonstrated on endless occasions that he is a beast on the mic. His intricate wordplay packaged with irony might mislead you into believing that he is just a joker…but no, this is a joker with a purpose!
The MC Type is making waves again with the release of his new 15-track album, “Lucky Silverback.” The track “John Wayne Gacy” from this album is peppered with rhythm and groove. It feels like back in the 80s again!
The choice of the title is expected to draw controversy, but I feel this was tactical as The MC Type likes to feed off that controversy. The depiction of the Killer Clown does not necessarily inspire confidence in the listener, but weirdly, it is the same thing that makes them want to listen to what this jam is all about. At the end of the day, curiosity wins.
For me, the hallmark of this track is the emphasis on groove and rhythm. I love the syncopated beats, intricate percussion patterns, and funky vibe around the song that make it both catchy and danceable.
“John Wayne Gacy” has been characterized by its infectious grooves, melodic hooks, and, of course, The MC Type’s distinctive vocals as he sing-songs with an unmatched confidence that has come to define him.
