Thanks for speaking with us! How’s everything going?
-Whats up!!! Everything is flowing well, I cant complain. Happy to be talking to you.
What sets your music apart? What is unique, or at least uncommon?
-I make music that I feel from within. I’m not trying to hop on any bandwagon. I enjoy the writing process and eventually develop a melody. My sound is definitely unique because I like to mix r&b with hip hop and pop. I grew up on a lot of genre-fused music in NYC.
What is the motivation behind such a lyrically rich and melodically unique single “Drug Like Love”?
-This song is different than anything I’ve ever done. I wanted it to sound like a pop record, theres not curses or explicit language. I guess the motivation was me thinking of the perfect bond. That you can be addicted to something in such a good way thats its “drug like”. It has a Caribbean feel, which has been a sound I enjoy creating. I want to release some good new school r&B soon.
How do you deal with writer’s block?
-To be completely honest. I almost never get writers block. Sometimes I’ll have a melody come to me and ill voice record it. I have also gotten very used to freestyle singing. I would listen to beats or create one based on the vibe feeling and record through a few times just to see how I’m flowing. After that yes, I’ll go and write it officially and make changes etc. I have so many of my own experiences as well as situations around me that need to be brought to light. I love creating new songs, every one is special in its own way whether we decide to use it or not in the end.
You have an amazing voice. Are you vocally trained?
-I appreciate you saying that. I have had some lessons with a some excellent coaches a few times, but for the most part no. My voice comes from my influences. Theres runs and vibrato’s in there that come out and surprise me even. I grew up listening to a lot of great vocalists. I like to experiment with different textures of my voice and I love doing my background vocals.
What is one message you would give to your fans?
-You are here on a search or quest. You have purpose and desire. My advice would be to push yourself and believe in your vision. This is a business where not everyone will see your vision and thats okay, but don’t give up! There’s only one you!
If you could collaborate with any artist, who would it be?
I haven’t been doing collaborations, I’m mostly still recording for my album. If theres one person, it would probably be Sal Houdini. Sal is my brother. He is so talented in so many ways and every time we get together we just seem to craft potential hits! I haven’t seen him in way to long as we both travel for work and haven’t been in NY at the same time. I’m so proud of his journey and shout out to everyone over at Houdini Sound! When I tell you he has bangers, thats an understatement! Sal if you reading this, it’s never too late LMFAO
For our final question, is there anything else you would like to add?
I am proud to announce that I have become an Author this year. My E-Book “2021 Artist Guide: Breaking Into The Music Industry” is now available on hollywoodalyan.com and theofficialx22.com.
